2. Where did Cryptocurrency Come From?
If you’re like me, you might have been loosely aware of bitcoin (cryptocurrency) in the early 2000s. You might also have been like me and not cared. However, you might have become very aware of it in 2014/2015 when everyone started talking about it. But, when did it actually come to be? Surprisingly, cryptocurrency’s ancestor started as “ecash” (cryptographic electronic money) created by David Chaum in 1983. Over the years ecash evolved into Digicash in 1995, which was then redefined as “bit money” and “bit gold”. Keep in mind, this encrypted digital money wasn’t like the anarchic cryptocurrency we know now, but it does explain how the ball got rolling.
