How to Write a Resume

5. Experience vs. Education

Some people can be at odds on whether to start with your relevant experience, or to start with your education.  The best way to decide how to start is to look at your experience.  If you have lots of relevant experience, start with a reverse-chronological list of your past experience.  If you don’t have as much experience, it might be better to start by listing your education and your functional skills that are relevant to the job you’re applying for. This functional skills-based approach is great for recent graduates, or people who are looking to make a complete career switch.
